What does this one word mean to you? Can ONE word change the outcome of a thought, a moment, a day, a week, a month, a life trajectory?!

If there is one thing I have learned in the first quarter century of my life, it is the true power of self-belief.

This one word has produced incredible power and motivation that has help me overcome doubts. Most importantly, keeping those doubts down in the basement for good. This one word will forever impact my mindset and the way I approach life and sport.

This didn’t happen overnight, and this isn’t something you one day wake up and acknowledge is there and then suddenly believe in yourself…it is a day in and day out process of practice and cultivation.

It’s awareness, patience, grit, grace, and persistence.

t’s so easy to get caught up in the day to day process of ANYTHING, but this process is what makes or breaks us. I don’t care how cliche or overused this saying may be, but the little things are the big things in a daily routine. A morning ritual/routine to set the tone for the day is magical.

I’ve become so obsessed with the art and mastery of self-belief. One of my favorite things to do in my down time is listen to or read about the stories behind some of the greats of the past or present-day people who are making dents in their area of profession. Doing so has shown me that absolutely nothing is ever rainbows and butterflies. This is what is not taught in any school at any age and I feel very strongly about incorporating real LIFE into a school teaching environment, but that's a whole other blog topic for another time.

When I am listening or reading, I jot down any quote I find that resonates with me or advice that may be of use on another day. So, over the course of four years where I have trusted in the process of my own self worth and self-belief, I have gathered a handful of gems written in my most prized possession…My Notebook.

Read, Write, Reread,Repeat

Personally, I’ve acknowledged and have held onto the methods that have worked best for me to continue to cultivate a positive outlook on daily life processes based around self-belief. Reading, taking notes, and rereading has worked wonders on days when I’m not feeling 100% or those little negative voices creep in. It’s remarkable what reading a sentence can do to a thought pattern.

Although, YOU ALONE are responsible for making self-belief a practice, however, you do get by with a little help from family, friends, mentors, and coaches who can see your visions and be a guiding light when the darkness comes creeping in. With, the importance of creating, attracting, and holding onto a like-minded tribe of people who only add to your life dreams and visions.

Luckily, for me, this was instilled in the brain of little me thanks to my parents and coaches I was so fortunate to have growing up playing sport. Grateful for their presence in my life every single day and to have had such memorable coaches who believed in me early on. .

One coach that stands out,who made it a point to use this word BELIEVE daily is Jason Calanog. He was the coach of my group at Bolles. He took it upon himself to instill this in our approach to every practice. I can't thank him enough for his passion and devotion to our group and program at Bolles. The impact he had on some of now, the World's best swimmers will never go unrecognized and I'm honored to have been able to swim under him. BELIEVE was his mantra going into a “late nite “group swim practice and any swim meet. Naturally, swimming up to two times every day, this translated over to every day life and when I moved away from Bolles Swimming after my Dad got transferred to Virginia, I carried this on with me. You don’t realize how strongly something impacts you until you take the time to rewind and analyze those times of growth and thought processes and the people who impacted you the most. Thank You.

First, it takes being open to the possibility that you are truly more capable than what you think you are & actually believing it with every bone in your body.

Second, it takes a choice on what you envision yourself doing. A passion or simply what your good at and what you see longevity in or even just an opportunity that can be used as a stepping stone to get to another.

No glamour, no sugar coat.
